Hallmarq physicists Steve Roberts, Giedre Podolyak, Snezhana Chater feature in the
Institute of Physics blog describing how Hallmarq’s MRI scanner fits around the horse’s leg, so that equine patients can simply be led into the scanner, sedated but conscious, for an MRI scan without the risk associated with general anaesthesia. Sophisticated error-correction and image-processing software helps the scanner compensate for the horse’s movement. In 15 years of operation veterinarians have used Hallmarq’s machines to scan more than 60,000 horses.
